December, 2018 Newsletter

Aloha Members of the Hawaii Big Game Fishing Club:

For the record, your new Officers and Board of Directors have been pretty busy since our election back in July of 2018.  Per the By-Laws of the organization, 11 paid members met and nominated a Board and then 4 Officers, who accepted the responsibility of bringing the club back to its previous prominence, and cleaning up some tax and legal issues, including the unfortunate loss of our previous 501(c) 3 tax status.

Since then, President Jody Bright, Vice President Al Gustavson, Secretary Rick Gaffney and Treasurer Robbie Brown have been navigating the circuitous IRS process required to regain that important "tax exempt" status, update the Articles of Incorporation and By-Laws to put the Club back on a firm legal and tax footing.

Moreover, we've been engaged in the many details of managing the Club's facility, assuring its solvency, re-creating a solid list of member benefits, looking into facility repair and maintenance issues, reproducing  tournaments and other members events, and negotiating with the State to expand our clubhouse footprint so that we can offer more to the community at large, including, a Fishing Museum.   And that ain't all.

We'll get into more specifics in future emails but before closing I'd like to urge anyone willing to help us by working on a Committee, to get in touch with any of us at your earliest convenience so that we can grow our efforts to bring the Club back to what it was in earlier years.  Tournament Committee Chairman Teddy Hoogs teddyhoogs@gmail.com is particularly looking for assistance with reviving and expanding our tournament offerings.

If you know anyone you think would like to be a member, please fill out a membership application. Download the Membership Application Form.
Feel free to contact us to volunteer, ask questions, or share ideas.

Please let us know if you have any questions, ideas, historic information or suggestions for reviving our 104 year old club—the second oldest big game fishing club in America!

Happy Holidays,
